Mr. William F. Stevens, Maungatapere Farmer

OBITVAST

Mr. William Francis Stevens, whose death has occurred at the age of 51, was a well-known Maungatapere farmer. Born at Waipu, Mr. Stevens was educated at Maungatapere, where he worked on the family property until 1915, when he left for overseas with the New Zealand Forces, serving in Palestine in the Mounted Machine-gun Squadron. Although he was unwounded, Mr. Stevens returned to the Dominion a cripple and he had suffered ill-health throughout the intervening years. After spending two years in hospital following his return to New Zealand, Mr. Stevens commenced farming at Lake Rotoma, in the Rotorua district, and 14 years ago went to Taneatua. Twelve months later he returned to Maungatapere, where he was engaged in farming until his death. Mr. Stevens is survived by his wife and a young family of one daughter and two sons. His eldest son was killed in an accident some years ago.
