No Penalty For Crippled Reservist

No penalty was asked for by the Director of National Service against Henry John Andrew Mclnnes, who was charged in the Whangarei Court this morning that, being a member of the first division of the reserve undethe National Service Emergency Regulations, he had failed to make application for enrolment within the stipulated time. Mclnnes. who pleaded guilty, was convicted and discharged. Sergeant R. E. McGettigan said that at the request of the National Service Department the police had interviewed Mclnnes, who had filled in an enrolment form later than was required by the regulations. Asked for an explanation Mclnnes said that he thought his name would be taken off the electoral roll but when he found that he had to register he had done so. Mclnnes was a drover 38 years of age, said Sergeant McGettigan. At the age of three he had had his right leg amputated and had lost a finger of his left hand. A penalty was not asked. Crews Safe.—The Berlin radio announced that New Zealanders and Australians were among the airmen whose planes came down in last week’s raids on Germany. Sixty-two members of crews are i safe and are prisoners of war.
