Reinforcements From Canada At Hongkong

OTTAWA. November 16. The Prime Minister (Mr. Mackenzie King), announced that a considerable force of Canadian troops had arrived in Hongkong to strengthen the British garrison there for defence “against aggression, actual or threatened, in any part of the world.” Mr. Mackenzie King said that it was in accordance with this view that the Government had deemed it advisable to associate Canadian troops with those of the forces from other parts of the British Commonwealth now stationed in the Orient. The Canadians are commanded by Brigadier J. K. Lawson. It was announced today that the Canadians had a safe and uneventful journey across the Pacific. The Canadian Government announced at Ottawa today that the Canadian troops will serve with other units of the British forces making up the Hongkong garrison. The strength of the garrison is not disclosed.
