Opening Of Kaikohe Church Presbytery
[Special to “Northern Advocate"! KAIKOHE, This Day. A large gathering congregated to witness the opening and blessing ot the Presbytery erected at Kaikohe for the priest in charge of the Bay of Islands parish, the ceremony being performed by the Vicar-General of the diocese. Monsignor Cahill. m addition 1o the Viear-Gqneral and the local priest, Rev. Father Sheerin, members of the Roman Catholic clergy present were the Rev. Father Hazelet (Rawene), Rev. Father McKean (Kaitaia). and the Rev. Father Kennedy (Ponsonby). Masters John and Henry Grintshaw, of Kaikohe, attended on Monsig'nor Cahill. After extending a warm welcome to those gathered. Father Sheerin read a ietter received from Bishop Liston expressing regret at his absence and congratulating them on their achievement. Asset to Parish Expressing his pleaseure at being present to take part in blessing and opening the Presbytery, Monsignor Cahill said that he believed it would be a great asset to the parish. Father Hazelet referred to the cordial welcome always extended to the clergy in the homes of Kaikohe and he was sure if occasion arose, the citizens would now be as warmly welcomed at the Presbytery. Short addresses were also given by Father McKean. Rev. H. J. Steele (on behalf of the Anglican Church), Mr. C. W. Boswell, M.P., Mr. H. F. Guy (for Kaikohe residents), and Messrs. L. Hodgson and A. Sullivan for the (parishioners). At the conclusion of the speeches Father Sheerin tendered the key of the Presbytery to Monsignor Cahill, who unlocked the door and declared the building open.
