No Potatoes As Reprisal On French
LONDON, November IG. The correspondent of the British United Press on the French frontier reports that the August ration of potatoes in occupied France was to have been ,21b per head and to have been distributed by August 23. However, a German officer was killed in Paris on August 21 and the Germans accordingly stopped'the distribution of potatoes. In addition, by heavy purchase on the Paris market, they ensured that Parisians had no meat, fruit, fish, butter, eggs or fresh vegetables. The weekly cigarette ration in France is now 20. The wine shortage is even worse. The French worker and his family on the average used to consume 10 quarts of wine per head weekly. They are now allowed one pint per head weekly.
