Poultry-Keeping Principles Explained At Whangarei
The principles of poultry breeding for type and uniformity were fully explained in an address by Mr. H. M. Peirson to a meeting of the Whangarei Poultry, Pigeon and Cage Bird Society on Saturday evening.
Mr. Peirson stressed the value of the male bird as the most important side of the breeding combination, at the same time advising that the females must also be of good quality. Several interesting theories were put forward by the lecturer, who is supervisor to the Northland Pig Council. He backed up the theories with photographic illustrations of experiments carried out by him. At the conclusion of the address, Mr. Peirson was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his instructive lecture. He also answered many questions. After supper, the president (Mr. R. Timewell) called upon Mr. I. Wilson, a past president of the society, to present certificates and trophies won atthe 1939-40 egg-laying contest, as well as those gained at the last poultry show.
