The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) stated this afternoon that he had received a cablegram from the High Commissioner (Mr. W. J. Jordan), concerning his visit to New Zealand troops in the Western Desert. Mr. Jordan said he had found the men in good heart and high spirits. The Commander-in-Chief in the Middle East (General Sir Claude Auchinleck) and General Cunningham, had expressed their highest admiration of the New Zealand troops and their pleasure at having them in their commands. They had also expressed their complete confidence in the commander of the New Zealand division (MajorGeneral Freyberg). A London cable says that Mr. Jordan, after making a tour, of the Middle East, extending' to 1000 miles, said: “I have seen our soldiers in forward positions and I can assure New Zealanders that they can be proud of them. “Our troops are extremely cheerful and eager to engage in the task for which they are so well equipped.”
