Local Bills Passed
In the House of Representatives yesterday, the Lower Hutt City Empowering and Rates Consolidation Bill (Mr. Nash) and the Awatere County Empowering Bill (Mr. Meachen), both local Bills which had reached the second reading stage, were put through the remaining stages and passed with little discussion.
Utakura P.Q. Closed To mark the closing of the Utakura Post Office an afternoon was held recently in honour of Mrs. Flood, who has acted as postmistress for nearly 20 years. As tokens of appreciation of her services, the residents of Utakura presented her with roses and a variety of shrubs for her garden. A humorous reading was given by Mrs. J. M. Lewis and was greatly appreciated. Mrs. Flood’s daughter, Mrs. Donovan, from the Bay Plenty, was also present.
