Takahiwai Maori Warrior Honoured On Return

Returning to his people from the scenes of war in England, Greece and Crete, happy though bandaged, Rimi Paki was welcomed home on Sunday with full Maori ceremony. Many speeches of welcome were made to the young warrior, including those made by Chief Maki Pirihi. Friday Pirihi and Mr. P. K. Paikea, M.P. for Northern Maori. Mr O. D. M. Bloy, J.P., welcomed Rimi home on behalf of teachers and children attending Takahiwai Native School, where Rimi was educated. Traditional Welcome Among the aged wahines who gave the traditional' welcome were his grandmother (Mrs Paki) and his great-aunt (Mrs Hunia). Although Takahiwai is only a small native settlement, already 20 of its i sons have enlisted, most of them being overseas or on their way. Two have already paid the supreme sacrifice.
