Hitler Is Utterly Fatigued

NEW YORK. June 20. The former United States Ambassador to Belgium (Mr. John Cudahy), writing for the North American Newspaper Alliance, provides an interesting description of Hitler’s appearance and manner which Mr. Cudahy gained in interviewing him. “Above all,” says Mr. Cudahy. “I was struck by his unhealthy pallor. His skin had the same look that those of prisoners have when the sun is denied them in a long period of confinement. “He looks dyspeptic and dogtired, with puffed eyes. The story goes that he is getting less than four hours rest a night. He gave me the impression that he was utterly fatigued—one whose nervous energy was nearly spent. Unrelenting “His eyes were hard, unyielding, fanatical, without one compromising note of sympathy or kindness. “His voice was absolutely lacking in any sympathetic timbre and had the harsh, frayed quality which one associates with political orators at the close of a hard campaign. His laugh was similarly harsh, strident and disagreeable—it was as rasping as automobile gears. He has a humourless, desperately hard face.”
