J. Dawson), who is in chai'ge of this branch of the service. The letter read: '• “A suggestion has been made that railway engine whistles be used to reinforce emergency warning signals, and the General Manager of Railways has indicated that his department is w illing to co-operate in this direction. It is thought that the officer in charge of each locomotive depot should be linked up with the local E.P.S. organisation so that the latter could instruct him as to the warnings to be given. This should provide a definite control and, in particular, should eliminate any danger of false alarms which might be evident if the matter were left to the discretion of individual enginedrivers.”
