Whangarei Wants More Blood Donors

Already 80 members of the St. John Ambulance in Whangarei have offered their services as donors oi' blood if necessai’y but from 200 to 300 persons were required in Wnangarei, was the statement made to the Emergency Pi-ecautions Scheme executive last night by the Medical Controller (Dr. G. Walker) when the question of blood transfusion was being discussed.

Dr. Walker said that the 80 donors were already being typed and if any member of the public desired to give such a service they should get in touch with the Medical Superintendent at the hospital, Dr. Hall, or Mi’. Haden also at the hospital. Need For Donors Writing to the E.P.S. organisation on the position of blood donors, the Director of National Sei’vice stated ; “Members of the Emergency Precautions Scheme will, probably be in the best position to render the most valuable service, i.e., the provision of fresh blood as and when required. “In all cases it is important that the donor’s blood be classified according to its type, and this is the reason why prospective donors are ui’ged to send in their names as early as possible to the local public hospital or the local branch of the blood transfusion service.
