Kupe Club Mailbag

Bridie Flood—Welcome to the club, Bridie. Kupe was home on leave this week-end, but I didn't get a cup of tea at 6 a.m. Esme Rowley—Your “S” entry arrived too late, Esme. That competition was judged last week. Stella Turketc—lt’s his tent mate. But they both nearly overslept the other morning! Yes, we’re usually home on Fridays. Pop in if you can, to 21 Aubrey Street. Her name is Barbara. It ought to be Sniffles at present—she has a cold. Murray Kessell—Welcome to our club, Murray. Hope we’U have more letters and some competition entries from you. Dawn Osborne —Nice to hear from you Dawn. The S.P. is well again, but the S.S.P. still has a cold. Hope you have your wish about school. Laura Ujdur—lt is a long time since we heard from you Laura, but knitting for three brothers and homework doesn’t leave much time. Glad you enjoy the page. Reg Thomas—No, the S.P. doesn’t muddle his Nursery Rhymes that way, thank goodness. He’s just two and a half. Hazel Snell —I’ll pass your good wishes on to Kupe, Hazel. He’s very well and happy at camp. Thanks for the jokes. Irene Snell—He likes camp very much Irene, all except getting up early. I guess you don’t mind having a rest from milking for a while. Joy Cameron —Yes, I’ll send you a form, Joy. There isn’t always room to put one in the page. Eileen Osborne —We’re well thanks, Eileen, except for the S.S.P. who has a cold but is very saucy nevertheless. Wish my hens would lay. They are loafing at present. Send along your story and we’ll see if we can find room for it. Noreen Rowlings—Will post you a badge this week, Noreen. Dawn Price —No, the Sergeant-Ma]or doesn’t bring him tea. Dawn. Yes, the S.P. and S.S.P., and colds and teeth do keep me busy. Pity to miss an extra holiday, but you certainly are safe from epidemics in the correspondence school. Mary Nankivell—Quite a family affair, Mary. Glad you enjoy the page. Kupe will be out of camp in another 9 weeks. The S.P. has one more tooth to get. but the S.S.P. has only got one, so has a long way to go. Dorothy Fraser—l enjoy a farm holiday, Dorothy, and can milk and do odd jobs there too. I’m not at an office these days —what would'we do with the S.P. and the S.S.P.? Put them in the waste-paper basket, I guess. Shirley Rowland—Oranges and lemons aren’t really like granose to taste anyway, Shirley. The S.P. is very fond of Nursery Rhymes and is liable to start saying them at any time or place. Kupe is at Whangarei and we see him each week. He does feel the cold but is very well.

“Advocate” Office, Water Street. Whangarei. Tuesday, May 27. Hello Everbody, I’m in disgrace! ’ Last week I explained Kupe’s early rising as being due to his rccm-mate and I’m scathingly corrected—his tent-mate. As I’m not in a camp I forget such distinctions. Anyway they both nearly slept in the other morning! Kupe was home this weekend and he thinks maybe you’d prefer a competition every week instead of every second week as I suggested. We discussed the pres and cons, and finally decided to put it to the vote. When you send in, this week’s competition, just write at the bottom, “Weekly Competition” or “Fortnightly Competition,” whichever you prefer, then we’ll know what to do. And don’t forget the stamps. Cheerio till next week. Princess, Northland Tribe,
