Germans Make “Dead Set” To Get James Roosevelt
(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 25. Apparently the Germans made a “dead set” to get President Roosevelt’s son (Captain James Roosevelt) when he was visiting Iraq, says the British United Press correspondent at Cairo. Twice at Habbaniyah German planes attacked Captain Roosevelt’s car. On the first occasion three Heinkels swooped and rained bombs on the car, which was forced to turn back and dash for safety. Later four Messerschmitts dived to a height of 200 feet, spraying machinegun bullets around the car. Captain Roosevelt jumped out and flung himself flat on the sand. In addition, Captain Roosevelt’s quarters were bombed and machinegunned.
