Is Germany Afraid Of Oil Shortage?

Informed circles in London opine that German strategy in the war during the last six months has been dictated by fear of an oil scarcity, and that there are very strong grounds for presuming that the enemy is becoming sparing in the use of oil. The shortage of rubber and copper has riot yet been alleviated by the attacks on the Balkans.
There are copper mines in Yugoslavia, but the Yugoslavs destroyed a good many of the mines. When the Germans repair this damage it is estimated they will get 30,000 tons. As regards rubber, Germany is definitely short. In the matter of supplies of chrome, it is estimated that as a result of over-running Yugoslavia and Greece, the Germans will secure 100,000 tons of chrome ore, which will cover 50 per cent, of their needs.
