Old Soldier Fined 1/For Ansae Day Breach
[Per Press Association. —Copyright.] WELLINGTON, This Day. Sunday tram fares in Wellington now entail a charge of 3d for the first section, and when Sunday fares were in force on Anzac Day, Harold Vincent Fotter refused to pay an extra penny, although asked not only by the conductor, but by an inspector and a constable. The result was that he appeared in the police court yesterday. “It was Anzac Day, and I am a returned soldier, and there are about five of us left out of the battalion who congregate every Anzac Day," Potter said. “Of course, we have a few beers, and I thought I was getting taken down.”
“I will fine you a shilling without costs,” said Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M. “Do not do it next Anzac Day.”
