Fraser Host To 1000 N.Z. Soldiers
(N.Z.E.F. Official News Service.) CAIRO, May 22. The Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) was the host last evening to 1000 officers, non-commissioned officers and men of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force at a garden party in the grounds of the Gezira Sporting Club. Mr Fraser met every man present, and expressed pleasure at being able to convey the appreciation of the people of New Zealand for what the men had done and what they would do. Mr Fraser, who paid a tribute to what had been accomplished by the New Zealand Division in Greece, said he was pleased to have been able to meet so many soldiers, and he wished those to whom he had spoken would pass on his greetings to those he might perhaps not have been able to see. Admiration of People He had found out in his brief conversations with the men that he had known at least some of the friends of most of them. Mr Fraser paid a tribute to those who had sacrificed their lives for the cause, to the wounded he extended sincere sympathy, and for the missing he could say the thoughts of all were with them, and to those still struggling back he wished the very best. “I can only express the sincere admiration of the people of New Zealand for what has been accomplished,” said Mr Fraser. “May God speed and guard you in the task that lies ahead.”
