P.M.A. Acquires Nikau Bacon Company

[Special to “Northern Advocate”] HAMILTON, This Day.' The Nikau Bacon Company, Ltd., has been acquired by the New Zealand Pig Marketing Association, and the head office is to be transferred to Auckland. Referring to the company's business in his monthly message to shareholders, the chairman of directors of the association (Mr. W. A. Phillips) said that its turnover had rapidly increased during the last two years, and now stood at £70,000. while the number of baconers handled was 12,000. The Nikau Bacon Company was purchased as a going concern by the Kiwi Bacon Company (Auckland), Ltd., a new concern with a capital of £ 10,000, in which the Pig Marketing Association was the only shareholder, said Mr. Phillips, who added that this enterprise gave a permanent local market outlet for over 40,000 bacon pigs per annum, or more than 20 per cent, of the total New Zealand market requirements for manufactured pig products.
