Communist Threat To Union Member Alleged

[Per Press Association.—Copyright.] WELLINGTON, This Day. An allegation by a union member that he and other members of the union had been threatened by Communists has been reported to the police, who are investigating the matter. In confirming this, the Commissioner for Police (Mr. D. J. Cummings) said yesterday: “If there is evidence tc support the complaint made, the police will have no hesitation in prosecuting those responsible for the threat.” Mr. Cummings was shown a statement made by a member of the Carpenters’ Union, who took a prominent part in securing the rescinding of the anti-war motion proposed by representatives of the union at the recent conference of the Federation of Labour. The members alleged that Communist members of the union had issued threats against him and other anti-Communist members of the union. Some of them had been told they would be hounded out of their jobs if they did not “behave themselves.”
