Maunu Red Cross Sub-Centre Holds Children’s Party
A most successful children’s .plain and fancy dress party was held in the Maunu hall on May 3, when the funds of the Maunu sub-centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society were substantially augmented. Mrs. H. Armstrong was the pianist for the games and dances, which had been arranged for the children by Mr. C. S. Going, while Miss Berna Armstrong plaved the accompaniments for the community singing. Brisk business was done at the stall, where home-made sweets, mystery parcels and ice creams were sold. Adding to the gaiety of the party were the fancy dresses of the following children: Janie Waetford (sailor), Margaret Anderson (Swiss girl), Merna Child (Little Bo Peep), Berna Armstrong (gipsy), June McKenzie (fairy), Jean Hawken (nurse), Beverly Brett (violet). Margaret Stiffe (peasant girl), Patricia Stifle (Japanese girl), Margaret Magil) (flower girl), Fay Smith (Old English lady). Valerie Smith (flower girl), Janace Smith (Dutch girl), Colin Garry (cowboy), Mervyn Going (huntsman), Napier Waetford (cowboy), Peter Flux (Dutch), Munro Wilson (Dutch boy), Tom Millward (bride), Peter Wilson (bumble bee), Gilbee Stiffe (Red Indian), Dennis Brett (cowboy), Jim Magill (page boy), Rovce Penning (toy soldier).
