Legless Fighter Pilot Wins D.F.C.
LONDON, December 25
In the latest list of Royal Air Force awards, Acting - Squadron - Leader Bader, the legless pilot who has already won the D. 5.0., receives the D.F.C.
He rejoined the Royal Air Force after being invalided out of the service.
Referring to the awards the Gazette states: “He continued to lead his
squadron and showed the utmost gallantry on all occasions. He has now destroyed 10 hostile aircraft and damaged several more.” Acting-Squadron-Leader Bader received the D.S.O. in September. He. lost both legs in an airplane crash before the war, but passed a flying test with distinction. After flying Spitfires he was posted to a Canadian Hurricane squadron.
