Japanese Fear Speech Freedom May Be Restricted
(Received 9.30 a.m.) TOKIO, December 25.
The Japanese Diet was convoked yesterday amid considerable popular misgivings over the obliteration of political parties and fears that the freedom of speech may be curtailed under the new structure.
Outstanding domestic issues include the revision of the election laws, limiting the franchise to the heads of families over the age of 25, and thus disenfranchising 4,000,000 voters. An unprecedentedly la'rge budget will be submitted.
Fireworks are chiefly expected from the industrialists’ opposition to tightened economic control.
