Home Guard A unit of the Home Guard has been formed and already one night parade and one day parade have been held. Twenty members have been enrolled, and the following have been appointed officers: Unit commander, E. S. Ralls; first section leader, R. Askew; second section leader, L. Hutchinson; third section leader, F. Shepherd. Parades will be held at the local school each Saturday morning. Patriotic Activities Several meetings have recently been held, and the district is now being organised on an efficient basis. A games evening proved extremely popular, and the many novelties were thoroughly enjoyed. It has been decided to hold another games evening on Wednesday next. Funds already collected towards the quota exceed £25. Agricultural Association It has been decided that the 1941 show will proceed as usual and will be held in aid of patriotic funds. The secretary (Mr Stan Webb) has arrangements well in hand, and the function should prove as popular as previously. Ruapekapeka Pa-ites tripped the light fantastic at a tennis dance in the school a few evenings ago, the club also celebrating the opening of the courts for the season. General Cows are still coming in, and the weekly calf collecting truck is still taking full loads from the district to the works, supplimented by increasing numbers of pigs. Personal Pte. Amos Brown has returned from camp on special leave. Mr E. V. Ralls has returned from a two-weeks’ holiday at Kawau. Mrs Hay, of Te Awamutu, is visiting her sons at Ruapekapeka. Dawson has returned home after a short stay at the Kawakawa Hospital, where she underwent an operation to her foot. Mrs W. Dawson has returned from a visit to Waihaha, where she was the guest of Mrs O’Hanlon. Mrs J. Millington is again in residence at her home at Paiaka.

Mrs E. S. Ralls has returned from a flying visit to her sister, Mrs W. Pentecost, of Te Aroha. Mrs G. Ford is unfortunately again an inmate of Dr. Walker’s hospital, Whangarei. Mrs L. May is relieving at the post office during the absence of Miss Dawson on sick leave.

Mrs Brandso has returned to Kamo after staying with her son, Mr R. L. Kelly. Miss McCullough, of Geraldine, is relieving at the Ruapekapeka school in the absence of Mr B. Ward, who is in camp. Mr and Mrs J. Grey and family have left for Hikutaia, after residing at Towai for the past 16 years. A presentation of a valuable chiming clock was made to Mr Grey in recognition of his services to the agricultural association and the district generally. The W.D.F.TJ. made suitable presentations to Mrs Grey and Miss Grey.
