Three of the staff of the Johannesburg Nationalist newspaper have been convicted under the emergency powers regulations for publishing matter calculated to create panic or despondency, in comment based on the speech of a provincial councillor, alleging that truckloads of bloodstained uniforms were conveyed to Pretoria.

The general manager was fined £SO, the writer £35. and the night editor £ls.

The writer pleaded that he was participating in a general Press campaign against the Government for war news, which was difficult to obtain.
