Maungaturoto Dental Clinic Nears Completion

The culmination of many months of arduous work by an energetic committee will be reached at Maungaturoto on July 12, when the new dental clinic to serve the Maungaturoto, Paparoa, arid Mareretu schools, will be officially opened. Set in a corner of the school grounds, the structure conforms in every respect to the latest ideas in architecture.

The interior, which consists of three rooms, has been completed in pale green enamel paint, and the appliances and fittings are of a most elabate and modern design. Although the official opening takes place on July 12, the clinic will be open for its first young patients on July 1, when Mrs D. C. Dennison, of Warkworth, will take up her duties on a temporary basis. A permanent nurse will not be appointed until October. Reward of Energy. The Maungaturoto clinic will be the only full-time dental clinic in the Otamatea County, and its establishment is due to the energy and foresight of a capable committee, centralised in Maungaturoto, but embracing the three school districts served by the clinic. r lhe establishment of a large consolidated school in Maungaturoto has paved the way for a rapid increase in the educational facilities in this portion of the Otamatea County. A new infants’ department? and a new high school are being built in the school grounds, which are being enlarged. and the opening of the clinic will make Maungaturoto the educational centre for over half of the county. The dental clinic cost £460 to build, and the parents in the three school districts contributed £153 of this amount. At the annual meeting of the clinic committee, held last week, the hon. secretary (Mrs P. Mincher) reported that after paying out the £153, a balance of approximately £lO remained, but more than this amount will be absorbed by the furnishing of the interior. Committee Elected. The following committee were elected: Chairman, Mr C. J. Halligan; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mrs P. Mincher: committee, Messrs. Whitwell, D. Cole, Fuller. G. Variance, E. Hames, S. Petrie. F. Massey, R. Fraser, A. Cross, P. Appleyard, E. Edwards, W. Williams, A. Cullen, and Mrs McCrae.
