Sheep Worried In Far North

Mr E. Parker, Church Road, wrote to the Mangonui County Council stating that seven of his sheep had been killed and a number of other sheep mutilated by dogs recently. He requested that Mr MacKenzie, the inspector, be instructed to visit a nearby native settlement and shoot any unregistered dogs found there. He had seen .one native with seven dogs, only one of which had a collar. Cr. Holder: It is a very bad case of worrying, but our powers with regard to shooting dogs is limited. On the motion of Cr. Holder, it was decided to ask the inspector to visit Oturu as early as possible.
