75 Teams In Seven-a-side Rugby Tourney
Seventy-five teams have been entered for the Whangarei Rugby Union’s seven-a-side tournament on June 3.
The usual dance and presentation oi prizes will follow at the Parochial Hall. In response to an invitation to visit Whangarei, the Barbarians Club, Auckland, stated that eight of their members had enlisted. The club was not playing football this season. Lower Grade Insurance. A voluntary insurance scheme for third and all lower grades was approved. Previously third grade players had ■he option of paying 1/- and being covered in the same way as senior and juniors, whose insurance is compulsory. The union considered that 1/- levy was rather high for the younger players. Now all players in the lower grades will be given the option of paying Ud per match. This will cover first medical attention and a benefit of 15/- weekly with a maximum of £B. Exemplary Conduct. After receiving the report of the manager (Mr S. J. Snow) of the representative team which visited Dargaville last Saturday, the president (Mr L. C. Garry) expressed gratification at the exemplary conduct of the Whangarei players both on and off the field. Attention is again to be drawn to the liability of forfeit where lower grade teams play men overweight or over age.
