R.S.A. Bowlers Held Up

Ten hours on manoeuvres before arriving at the scene of hostilities, a Whangarei team which competed in the Auckland R.S.A. bowling tournament last week-end, could hardly be expected to do justice to itself. The team comprised E. Woledge, J. H. Marwick, S. Gribble ,and M. Whitelaw. Leaving Whangarei at 6 p.m. on Friday, the car in which they were travelling was held up, the key snapping in the timing drjve. After several hours’ delay the Anzacs extemporised with the machinery, but Devonport was not reached until almost daylight. Despite their fatigue, the Whangarei players won two of the five games, and were only narrowly defeated in the remainder. The Whangarei rink, the first to take part in such a tournament, was commended by the R.S.A. authorities.
