Sir S. Cripps’ Trade Mission To Moscow
(Received 2 p.m.) RUGBY, May 27. In connection with the visit of Sir Stafford Cripps to Moscow, the British Government has received a reply from the Soviet Government, respecting the impending visit, which is - designed to endeavour to establish a basis for resumed trade talks between the two countries. There is no reason to believe that the reply was at all unfavourable, but certain formalities have yet to be concluded. Sir Stafford Cripps, who was formerly a leading member of the Labour Party, and who was expelled from the party for his connection with the Popular Front, recently toured Russia and America in an unofficial capacity. On his return he spoke favourably of conditions in the U.S.S.R.
