French Cabinet Meets Suddenly
(Received 2 p.m.) PARIS, This Day. The French Cabinet was suddenly summoned at 11 p.m. Fresident Lebrun attended. There was no indication up till midnight as to the outcome of the ingThe Belgian Prime Minister (M. Pierlot) and the Foreign Minister (Dr. Spaak) earlier in the day went to Paris from London after meeting the British War Cabinet on Sunday. They conferred with Mm. Reynaud and Daladier. It was officially reported later that Cabinet examined the military and political situation and also heard General Weygand’s views. M. Reynaud will broadcast to the nation at 8.30 a.m. Meantime the great battle on a 25 miles front along the Lys River between Menin and Courtrai continues to rage with extreme violence. “Increasing Gravity” The French spokesman late tonight said the Germans crossed the Lys at several points. lie added that the fighting seemed to have reached its maximum intensity. The fate of Calais Mas not known at nightfall. The remainder of the front was comparatively calm. Well-informed sources in London last night described the situation in Northern France as of increasing gravity.
