(Received 12 noon) LONDON, May 27. The Rome correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain says newspapers continue to clamour insistently for freedom in the Mediterranean. The newspaper “II Tevere" says the Italian Air Force and Navy could overcome the Allied forces in the Alexan-dria-Haifa-Cyprus triangle. It added that an immediate air attack from Sicilian, Libyan and Dodecanese bases would overthrow the Allied air forces in Egypt and Palestine. The Chief of the Fascist militia (Lieut.-General Achille Starace), in an Order of the Day to students, praised their “unsatisfied anxiety to liberate Italy from her arrogant oppressors in the Mediterranean.” New Envoy to Vatican The Pope has agreed to accept the credentials of the new Italian Envoy 10 .the Vatican (Dr. Bernardo Attolico). Tlie authorities have now permitted the sale of the Vatican paper “Observatore Romano” from the Rome news-stands, provided comment on the war is excluded. The Egyptian Government has appealed for volunteers for a national guard to assist the police in the event of emergency, says a message from Cairo. A national committee of all political parties lias been formed to control internal defence. Britons Advised to Leave. The Rome correspondent of the Exchange Telegraph Company stated that the British Embassy advised British residents to leave Italy, but it is- authoritatively stated that tnis should be treated with reserve. Reuter’s Rome representative says the Consulate is merely advising enquirers not to stay in the country if they are touring. A Malta message says the curfew has been ordered between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. from tonight as a defence against parachuters.
