15 French Generals Sacked
LONDON, May 26. It is officially stated in Paris that 15 French generals have been discharged from their commands. These included army and army corps commanders, several divisional commanders, and also director of services of large units. A communique stated: “These change s resulted from military operations now pi'oceeding.” The Minister of the Interior (M. Mandel) has been dismissed for incompetence. The police chiefs at Lille and Valenciennes, the police commissaries in five other towns, the police inspector at Douai, and Charles Prevost, former editor of the “Gazetted Ardennes,” have been arrested.
