TO Planes Shot Down
.The Dutch claim that 70 aeroplanes have been shot down in various parts. Four German armoured trains have been attacked and one blown up. The Germans are stated to be shielding behind prisoners of war. The Dutch are maintaining a rtrong opposition. The Dutch are reported to be holding the right bank of the river, but the Germans are. in-possession of the left bank and the aerodrome. Heavy fighting is taking place in the city itself. Barricades have been erected in the streets and even tramcars are being uspd as shelters.
First Troops Reach Coast. The momentous news that the first German troops have reached the Dutch coast, comes .from Rotterdam direct: . “German troops have occupied Waalhaven, the airport, after completely destroying the aerodrome and hangars with a heavy bom- ' bardment. “Enemy -troops, in spite of intense anti-aircraft fire, landed by parachute from large transport aeroplanes and overcame tile Dutch soldiers.” The Brussels radio states that fighting is in progress between Belgian and German troops at Asehen.
