Dutch West Indies Proclaim War State
(Received 2.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 10. The Governor has proclaimed that the Dutch West Indies colony of Curacao is in a state of war against Germany. This is the first such declaration in the American hemisphere since Canada’s, says a message from Willemstad. The crews’ attempts to burn and scuttle three German ships were frustrated. A German was killed when he resisted. The United States Secretary of State, Mr Cordell Hull, indicated that he w,as consulting the Latin-American countries concerning the status of Dutch possessions in the Western Hemisphere. He added that he had not communicated with Japan regarding the Dutch East Indies.
