Tokio Charges U.S. With Threat To Japan
»' (Received noon.) TOKIO, May 8. THE JAPANESE NEWSPAPERS UNIFORMLY CHARGE THAT THE STATIONING OF THE UNITED STATES FLEET AT HAWAII IS AIMED AGAINST, JAPAN. The “Kolmmbin '.Shimbun” predicts that the Philippines will be the base of American operations in the Far East. It is announced officially, says a Washington message, that the United States battle fleet is remaining indefinitely in Hawaiian waters. The Commander-in-Chief (Admiral Richardson) said the Navv Department had approved his request to remain for further tactical exercises and training. The fleet has arrived at Honolulu after two weeks’ extensive secret manoeuvres west of Hawaii. Next week it will carry out further exercises off the La bain a •area.
