German Action At Narvik

(Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 8. The German High Command says: “German planes struck two British cruisers with bombs off Narvik and bombed Allied positions and marching troops. One British plane was shot down east of Narvik.” The Germans are reported to have mined Narvik Fiord. The Norwegian military authorities say German troops landed by parachute about 30 miles north-east of the main Osterdalen Valley, but the Norwegians hold the rugged mountain ranges separating Narvik. Trondheim Evacuation Losses. The Associated Press of Great Britain Berlin correspondent says it is not believed that the German garrison at Narvik has been reinforced since the arrival of the first troops An Admiralty report states that six naval trawlers were lost in the Trondheim evacuation, namely, the Warwickshire, the Cape Chelyuskin, the Jardine, the St. Goran, the Gaul and Aston Villa. Two sank after air attacks. Four were so damaged in air attack that it was not thought advisable for them to attempt the North Sea crossing, and they were sunk by our forces.
