Auckland Trams Resume Normal Running

[Special to “Northern Advocate”! AUCKLAND, This Day. The Auckland trams last night at 5.30 o’clock resumed normal running. For nearly four days go-slow tactics had been adopted by the employees. Following' the decision by the Minister for Labour (Mr Webb) to bring the parties together, Mr Webb asked that in the meantime the trams be operated normally. Rapidly Restored. A return to normal schedules was begun about 5.30, but over an hour elapsed before the entire service was functioning as usual. The hoard's engineer and manager (Mr A. E. Ford) last night expressed appreciation of the rapid manner in which the men brought about a return to normal running, once their decision was made. Compelled to Negotiate. Mr Webb has invoked the War Emergency Regulations, and has taken the dispute entirely out of the hands of the parties concerned, and they are compelled to negotiate through the tribunal which will be set up. According - to an announcement last night, Mr S. Ritchie, Conciliation Commissioner, of Christchurch, has been appointed, chairman of the tribunal, and the board and union will be represented by three assessors each. The assessors are: t For the board: Mr W. H. Nagle, Mr J. A. C. Allum and Mr H. A. Anderson. - _ For the union: Mr P. Carr, Mr F. Hackett and Mr J. Liddell. The tribunal sat today and discussed the tramwaymen’s wages claim and the increase in the cost of living. Ihe tribunal also reviewed the negotiations between the unfon and the Transport Board.
