Army Plans Ready If U.S. Involved In War

WASHINGTON, April 27. The Assistant-Secretary for War (Mr Louis Johnson) disclosed the elaborate nature of the preparedness plans for the U.S. Army's “May Day” in the event of America's involvement in the war, although he disclaimed any intention to create the impression that the entry into the war was inevitable. Mr Johnson revealed that cantonment sites have already been selected whereas in the Great War this was not done until the declaration. He .added that purchasing agencies had been co-ordinated to prevent a repetition of the situation in 1917, when the six defence agencies bid against each other. Instead of a dangerous concentration of munitions in the north-east, at present there are 10,000 plants scattered all over the country prepared for an emergency. The development of team work between the Army and the railroad companies has hot necessitated regimentation.
