The death occurred yesterday afternoon, at Wanganui, of Mrs liatana, widow of the Maori prophet, Mr T. N. Ratana. who died last September. The New Zealand athlete, J. E. Lovelock, has been admitted a member of the Royal College of Surgeons. Fellows elected include G.. S. Todd, of New Zealand, and members include G. E. Moloney, R. G. Park, and C. G. Riley, also New Zealanders. The death occurred last evening in a private hospital of Mr John Sylvester Brigham, formerly town clerk of Auckland for 14 years. Mr Brigham retired in 1936. He was born in Auckland 68 years ago, and was educated at the Auckland Grammar School. He was appointed as town clerk in 1922, and retired after 3G years' service with the city council. ! Mr Norman A. Hills, who has been assistant secretary of the Whangarei Timber Company, has received a similar appointment at the Wilton Collieries, Glen Massey. Prior to i leaving, he was the recipient of a fountain pen from the timber company’s management. Mr Hills, who has also been organist and choirmaster at the Whangarei Methodist Church, was presented with a leather music case by the choir, and, at the evening church service on Sunday, the Rev. G. E. Brown made eulogistic reference to the departing gentleman’s services. Mr Hills will be greatly missed in local musical circles.
