35 Recruits At Whangarei This Week

During the past week 35 enlistments were received at the Whangarei Army Office (25 Europeans and 10 Maoris). This brings the total enlistments in the area to 2537 (1685 Europeans and 852 Maoris). Of the European recruits, 1245 have been passed as fit, 135 temporarily unfit and 124 permanently unfit. Reserved occupations account for 110 fit men, while 69 enlistments have peen withdrawn. The men sent to camp number 742, 324 are available and 183 are awaiting medical examination. Of these latter men, 108 are married with three or more children. Among the Maori recruits, 434 have been classed as fit, 110 temporarily unfit, 68 permanently unfit. Reserved occupations account for 42. while 40 enlistments have been withdrawn. Men sent to camp number 262, 91 are available and 241 recruits have yet to go up for medical examination. Of these 132 are married men with three or more children and so are not at present being taken into the forces. No Europeans Yesterday. Two Maori recruits came forward in Northland up to 9 o'clock this morning. They were: — Kaikohe: M. Mendes (Motukaraka). D. W. Hoani (Motukaraka). There were no European enlistments.
