Italy Digging Trenches
(Received 1 p.m.) LONDON. April 25. Italy’s position remains most intriguing. An additional factor is that Italy is trench digging along the Austrian but not the French borders. Though this should not be overemphasised, there are indications of better relations between Britain and Italy. The Italian Press is giving more publicity to British war communiques. Italy’s position is complicated by Hitler constantly applying pressure on Mussolini. Dr. Francisco Giunta, wellknown Italian lawyer and politician, was applauded in the Chamber when he predicted that the war would become ?. war of the peoples against the world’s wrongful property holders. Britain’s traditional friendship for Italy was refuted by history, he said. He asked why Italy should not settle the problem of Mediterranean security which the British Fleet had compromised.
