At the annual meeting of the Whangarei Hockey Association Miss E. Richards was elected to the position of assistant secretary of the association. Advice has been received from London that the jury of the Royal Institute of British Architects has awarded the 1939 gold medal for New Zealand to Turnbull and Rule, of Timaru, who designed the surgical block of the Timaru Hospital. The Whangarei County Council at its meeting this morning stood in silence as a tribute to the late Prime Minister (Mr. Savage),
