Tribute To Sponsors Of Milk-In-Schools Scheme

At the meeting of the Milk-in-Schools Committee last night, Mr L. J. Brake, in moving a vote of sympathy in connection with the passing of thl late Prime Minister (Mr Savage), said that the scheme had been brought in by Mr Savage’s Government. He thought that members would like the opportunity of paying their respects to the memory of Mr Savage. The motion was passed in silence. Later in the evening, Mr Brake, in his report, stated:— “All members will fully support me in expressing the sense of deep loss felt at the passing of our late Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage). “I am confident that, in the years to come, when the full benefits of the Milk-in-Schools Scheme are being realised, it will be proclaimed as one of the greatest pieces of humanitarian legislatiQn ever placed on the Statute Book by a Government. “Tlie work of moulding and putting the scheme into operation was the, responsibility of the Minister of Health (Hon. P. Fraser), and to his vision and enthusiasm —passed on in some degree to his department, committees, and teachers—js due the credit for its wonderful 'success. “Mr Fraser, who has succeeded his late chief as Prime Minister, retains the Portfolio of Health and it is sincerely hoped that he will be long spared to carry on the good work which has been so signally started.”
