“Man In The Street” Defence
(Per Press Association. Copyright ] CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. The following resolution was passed at a mass meeting of employees of the Addington workshops on Wednesday: “That this meeting views with very grave concern the suggestion to prevent the Controller of Commercial Broadcasting, Mr C. G. Scrimgeour, from continuing the ‘man in the street’ session over the radio, and also interference with the social justice crusade, “We consider any action of this kind to be retrogression, observing that this session was of intense interest to thousands of listeners, as well as being of tremendous educational value in the cause of social justice and socialism itself. “Further, in our considered opinion the people should be consulted before any interference with Mr Scrimgeour and his ‘man in the street’ session is contemplated or given effect to. We respectfully urge upon the Prime Minister the absolute necessity for continuing the ‘man in the street’ session at all costs in the interests of the people of New Zealand .and the Government itself.”
