Oruru

A dance was held in the Oruru Hall to raise funds for the Oruru school children's annual picnic. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs Kirk and partner, while Mrs Tom Trigg was the winner of the chocolates, and Mr W. Barriball the fowls. A dainty supper was served by the parents, after which dancing was kept up until early hours of the morning. The Fellowship Group of the Methodist Church met on Wednesday night to farewell Mr R. Maria, who is leaving the district to join the ministry. After the ladies had served supper, Mr Walton spoke on behalf of the Group, wishing Roger every success in his new walk of life. Mrs Garton. senr., spoke on behalf of the Oruru people and wished him well. She then presented him with a small gift. Mr Maria suitably responded. Mrs Rawle, senr., has returned to her home after ■ spending a few weeks with her son, Mr H. Rawle. Mrs H. Rawle is home after camping at Taipa. . Miss Dorothy Plimley has returned to her home in Auckland. Mrs Len Francis has recovered sufficiently to allow her to return to her home. Mr B. Trigg is able to leave hospital and is spending a few weeks with relatives in Kaikohe. Lola and Marie Walmsley and Billie Yates are in hospital undergoing operations for tonsils. Mearl Taylor is home on holiday.
