Flag Day In Whangarei
THE people of Whangarei and surrounding district made a generous response to the flag day appeal which took place • yesterday. The sum of £l2O was raised, which must be regarded as distinctly satisfactory. The feature of the appeal was the eagerness with which subscribers came forward. It was not necessary for the ladies who gave of their time and energy to conduct the collection, to ask for donations. In nearly every case contributors sought out collection-box holders, whose task was thus made easier and pleasanter. Whangarei showed a fine spirit yesterday, and there need be little doubt that when the history of the war is written, the page devoted to this portion of the Dominion will be a worthy All that is required is for everybody to think in terms of the Empire’s welfare and their own responsibility to the soldiers and sailors who have offered all in order that the liberty and privileges we pnjoy may be preserved.
