Flower Plots
I Dahlias that are backward must be hurried along now. March is the principal dahlia month. Staking, watering, spraying, and nquid manuring may be necessary. I Chrysanthemums come after dahlias, but take a longer season of steady growth’to bring them to perfection. Spray for rust, stake carefully, and give manure and watering regularly, taking care not to give overdoses. When staking bushy plants of I dahlias, Michaelmas daisies, zinnias, etc.,..use two or more stakes and plenty of tying material to go around the plants. The present is a very busy time of the year for the gardener. Every attention should be given to plants that are flowering, plants that are coming in bloom, as well as plant-
ing and preparing for winter and spring flowers. Early flowering gladioli will be going' over now. The plants should not be lifted until they have turned yellow. Tie in bundles and leave to dry off in a shed. When quite dry, the outside husks should be removed, and the corms stored in a dry place. The cormiets surrounding the old gladioli bulb may be removed and planted in rows, and left until they have dried off next season. Seed may be treated in the same way. Winter flowering sweet pgas arc all-important at the moment. Don't forget that the plants are not as hardy as the summer flowering varieties. They should only be planted where a sunny, sheltered, welldrained position can be given.
