Italy Rushes Frontier Fortifications
(Received 3 p.m.) LONDON, February 12. The Belgrade correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain says Italy is hurriedly fortifying thQr German and Yugoslav frontiers, Undine Province, also the Brenner Pass zqne. Large sums allocated for public works in January have been secretly diverted to Brenner pillboxes, on which work has been continuous for the last four months. “The Times” Moscow correspondent says that the Commander-in-Chief of the Black Sea Fleet (Admiral Oktiabrsky) revealed that the fleet was already in fighting trim. The L 939 surface and submarine fleet had been doubled, while antiaircraft and coastal defences had been increased. The fleet was now capable of protecting the rich oilfields in the Baku region, which provide more than half the Soviet oil. It was reported at the Miramar tennis courts yesterday that the Australian player, J. Bromwich, had lost a wallet containing £35. Bromwich looked a very worried young man until good news concerning Its recovery was received late in the afternoon.
