Another Tram Explosion
WELLINGTON, This Day. Another explosion, the third within a few days, beneath the wheels of a Wellington tramcar, occurred shortly before nine o’clock last night. The tram, which was leaving 'the city for the Exhibition, was turning from Cuba Street into Webb Street when there was a loud explosion. The tram was brought to a stop within a few yards. An investigation showed no damage and nobody was hurt. From the character of the explosion, the tramway authorities believe it was caused by a detonator maliciously placed on the line. Detectives are investigating. The first explosion, which considerably damaged a car on Wednesday night, is still the subject of police inquiry. It is understood a considerable ■amount of evidence has been collected. The police are believed to have taken a number of statements from persons who may be able to throw light on the occurrence.
