The death lias occurred of the Governor-General of Canada (Lord Tweedsmuir), following an injury to The skull caused by a fall while dressing last Wednesday. The death occurred at 7.13 p.m. at Montreal Neurological Institute, where ; bo suffered a relapse in the forenoon, j resulting in a third operating lasting four hours, preceding and following \ which he was given blood transit fusions. I ■' The blood donor was believed to be 1 his son. Alastair. Fhyscians believed he had withstood the operation well. I* He was the first King’s representative in Canada to die in office since the Confederation. Well-Known Novelist The first Enron Tweedsmuir. was better known as Sir John Buchan, the leading writer of adventure and mystery stories. Son of a Scottish minister, he won distinction as a scholar at Oxford. He was private secretary to the High Commissioner for South Africa (1901-03). From the Headquarters staff of the British Army in France during the Great War. he became Director of Information, 1917-18. From 1927-35 he was Conservative M.P. for Scottish Universities. Prester John (1910) made him famous as a novelist. He was appointed Governor-General of Canada in 1935.
